Ian Matthews – Managing Director After completing a degree in plant physiology (with 1st class honours) from University of Western Australia in 1981, Ian went on to complete post-graduate winemaking studies at Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1987. It was there that he met Mike Davies and a friendship was born.
After a number of winemaking stints at Sandalford, Evans and Tate, Rouge Homme and Penfolds, Ian worked in wine sales with Berkmann Wine Cellars in London. He returned to Australia in 1990 and teamed up with Mike to launch Portavin into Victoria.
Ian has overseen the growth of the company from a start-up of one small mobile bottling line to today where it provides a fully integrated wine service based around our Cheltenham facility. Ian’s focus nowadays is mainly on the development of PET usage for the wine industry and in providing technical support for the company on a national basis. |

Gavin Wade – Production Manager Gavin started in the beverage bottling and packaging industry in Adelaide in 1990, working for both Regal & Ross and Southern Beverages. He joined Portavin in 1996 working as an operator on the mobile lines. Gavin was appointed Production Manager during the establishment of Portavin's Melbourne in 2002 and took responsibility for the installation of equipment and commissioning of the site.
Currently Gavin is responsible for all of the staff and activities involved in the day to day running of the production lines and works closely with Tim Ross to organize the production schedules. Gavin is also responsible for the creation and ongoing management of PVM’s quality management system.

Tim Ross – Customer Service Manager Tim started his career in the automotive industry working in logistics and shipping management. He joined Portavin as Materials Planning Officer in 2003 and took on the role of Customer Service Team Leader in 2007. He is currently studying for a Diploma in Logistics Management.
Tim and his team are responsible for handling customer enquiries for bottling and dry goods sales, preparing quotes, production planning (in conjunction with the Production Manager) and for all of the logistical operations involved in the supply of dry goods for the company.

Matt Aldridge – Wine Technical Services Manager and Warehouse Manager
Matt developed an interest in wine and food as a teenager back in the 1970's through his family's restaurant and vineyard in Malmsbury, Central Victoria. Matt graduated in Oenology at Roseworthy College in 1985. He then spent the next 17 years as a winemaker for successful and respected Australian wineries - including Rosemount Estate, Killerby Vineyards and Eyton on Yarra.
In 2002 he started his own winemaking consultancy based in the Yarra Valley. For the next 7 years Matt worked for many clients and was involved in a diverse range of wine related activities, including show judging. Matt brings enthusiasm and a wide range and depth of experience to the Portavin team in his new role as Wine Technical Services Manager and Warehouse Manager.

Jill Monro - Administration Manager After an early career as a bookkeeper for a company of chartered accountants, Jill joined the wine industry in 1995 as bookkeeper/cellar door assistant with Stonier Wines, rising to the position of Administration Manager.
She joined Portavin in 2005 as Manager of the mobile bottling operations based in Bendigo. In late 2006, Jill also took on the role of Administration Manager for Portavin and in 2007 moved back to Melbourne in that role after the mobile side of the business was sold. Responsible for all of the accounting and administration functions of the company Jill has also been the driving force behind the implementation of our new ABM integrated computer software package.
