Where it all began ...
1989 – Portavin was established in Western Australia as a mobile bottling business to service the state’s rapidly expanding wine industry.
1990 – The bottling concept and demand was sufficiently proven to justify establishing a mobile bottling operation in Melbourne, Victoria and four trucks were commissioned to service the New South Wales and Victorian wineries
1994 – As the business grew, so did the demand and in 1994 a third mobile bottling operation was establishment in South Australia.
2001 – With the mobile bottling trucks at capacity and demand growing Portavin established its first static bottling hall and warehouse complex in Margaret River, Western Australia next to the well-known Evans and Tate winery.
The same year Portavin also purchased a 3.6 hectare industrial site at Hope Valley, 35 kilometres south of the Perth CBD which was quickly transformed into our first logistics focused hub and wine services centre.
2002 – Demand in the eastern states continued to rise and Portavin established a static bottling site in Cheltenham, Victoria. This 20,000 square metre site now operates two bottling lines with one line specialising in PET packaging mainly for the airline industry.
2004 – With continued demand for wine bottling services, a greenfield 16,000 square metre static site was established in Ottoway, South Australia in close proximity to Port Adelaide.
2009 – Portavin spread its operation and established Portavin New Zealand at Penrose, south of Auckland. This operation was sold in 2014.
2011 – To provide a bottling service in the largest market in Australia, Portavin purchased the McWilliams Wines bottling operation in Chullora, Sydney where services are now provided for the industry at large as well as McWilliams Wines.
2017 – Portavin was acquired by San Miguel Yamamura Australasia group and continues to be Australia’s largest wine services supplier with two static sites and one mobile unit in Western Australia along with static sites in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Bottling more than 7.5 million cases of wine per year across five sites, Portavin services more than 600 wine producers of all sizes.
