Dave Cleary - State Manager- New South Wales

Dave started his work in the wine industry as a vineyard cellar hand in Victoria’s picturesque Mornington Peninsula in the early 1990’s. At the same time he was working in the retail wine game and a love of wine quickly took hold of his life.

In 1996 he enrolled in a winemaking degree at Charles Sturt University located in the less picturesque town of Wagga Wagga (NSW). During his studies he was awarded two scholarships and was employed as Assistant Winemaker at the University’s commercial winery. Upon completing his degree Dave moved to Denmark (WA) and commenced work as a winemaker with West Cape Howe Wines, a position that lasted some 13 years and during which time saw him quickly promoted to the role of Senior Winemaker. To complement his winemaking skills Dave also has experience in wine retailing, he was a partner in his own wine distribution business, as well as wine show judging and wine journalism.

Dave joined Portavin in August 2011 and now is the State Manager for New South Wales.

Gerlinde Watson

Gerlinde graduated from Roseworthy Agricultural College as dux of her Associate Diploma of Applied Science. After spending several years working in the equine industry, Gerlinde completed a Bachelor of Business (Accounting / Business Law).

Gerlinde spent three years as Marketing Operations Manager at the WA Turf Club.  The wine industry lured her to move to Margaret River, where she took the role of Business Manager with Xanadu Wines and oversaw its transition from a small family run winery to a listed company.

Gerlinde joined Portavin in 2001 as General Manager WA and played an integral role in the growth and expansion of Portavin from a mobile business through to the fully integrated wine services business it is today.  She assumed the role of CFO in March 2011.

Peter March – Cellar Manager

There isn’t much Peter does not know about wine and wine quality. He started his wine career in the Hunter Valley, working in vineyards pruning and caretaking vines. He soon moved into the winery and worked as a Cellar-hand while studying Viticulture and Wine Science at CSU.

Peter progressed from the cellar into the laboratory and from there into winemaking.  After completing 10 vintages across the Hunter Valley, Tamar Valley and Italy, Peter commenced work as Cellar Manager at the McWilliams Chullora site. Peter has been managing the cellar for the past nine years and with his wealth of experience is all aspects of wine, he has been an integral team member since Portavin took over the site in October 2011.

When away from the Cellar Peter enjoys spending time with his family, especially playing soccer with his three teenage sons.

Peta Ingall – Technical Services Manager

Graduating from the University of Newcastle in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Chemistry and Biology, Peta has spent her working career gaining extensive experience in the wine and wine packaging industries.

After eight years as Laboratory Manager for First Creek Winemaking Services she sought new challenges and joined the team at Ozpak as Quality and Laboratory Manager, where she was responsible for monitoring and controlling both sparkling and still wines preparation for bottling. Peta is experienced in setting operational procedures and managing a team of staff to ensure customers wine is cared for at all times.

Her formal training mixed with hands-on experience makes her one of the most experienced wine quality controllers in the industry. Fortunately for Portavin, Peta wanted to relocate back to NSW to be near her family and in May 2014 she was welcomed into the team as Technical Manager, responsible for the Laboratory and quality of all products bottled and packaged at the Portavin NSW site.

Marisse Van Den Berg - Administration Manager

With over 27 years’ experience in Business Administration and Finance, Marisse is a great asset to our Portavin New South Wales team. Her Bachelor of Commerce Degree majoring in Industrial Psychology and Business Administration gives her the expertise to manage Portavin’s finance and administration extremely competently.  Marisse also has extensive knowledge of inventory control and operations with a sound reputation for managing personnel and engaging with stake-holders.

Marisse is responsible for Finance and Administration for our New South Wales operation and is also involved in managing our Warehousing operations, streamlining current processes and inventory control.

Adam Burton - Production Manager

Adam oversees the Production, Maintenance and Warehousing departments of the Portavin site based in Sydney. As part of the Senior Management team Adam helps support the strategic direction by providing leadership and driving process improvements.

Originally coming from the Beverage industry, Adam has spent many years working for Carlton and United Breweries working in various roles in both QLD and NSW.

Adam has a solid background in Continuous Improvements, Change Management and has experience in both Project Management and Lean Six Sigma.
Having recently joined the Portavin team, Adam is looking forward to building strong relationships with the Portavin team and their customers.
